Attendance Policy

Rev. 20201012

  1. GENERAL STATEMENT
    1. Each employee has been hired by Westlake Tool & Die Mfg. Co. Inc. (herein after referred to as Company) to perform an important function. As with any group effort, it takes cooperation and commitment from everyone to operate effectively.
    2. Attendance and punctuality are very important. Absences cause a slow-down in work and added burdens for your fellow employees. Good attendance is expected from all employees of the Company. You should be at your workstation by the start of each workday at the time designated by your supervisor. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will not be tolerated and will be cause for disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
    3. The Company does realize, however, that there are times when absences and tardiness cannot be avoided. That is why the Company has implemented a no-fault system that allows employees to accumulate some points before disciplinary action is taken.
  2. PROPER NOTIFICATION
    1. Regardless of the reason for absence, employees are expected to notify the Company by phone at 440-934-5305 before the start of their shift. Employees should speak with their supervisor directly or, if the supervisor is unavailable, leave a message in voicemail box 110 in advance of their scheduled work time. Employees should call every day during an absence, unless on an approved leave.
  3. VOLUNTARY RESIGNATION
    1. Unreported or unexcused absences for three (3) consecutive workdays will be considered a voluntary resignation and the employee will be discharged.
  4. POINTS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION
    1. Each employee’s absenteeism and tardiness records, based on a points system, are kept on file. The points system, and applicable disciplinary actions, are described in Sections VII and VIII below.
    2. The point system is based on a rolling twelve-month (12) calendar.
  5. BONUS PROGRAM
    1. If an employee accumulates three (3) points or less during any calendar month period, they will receive a bonus (currently $50). If an employee receives the bonus for six (6) consecutive months, they will be given an additional paid day off.
    2. Upon earning this day off, the applicable employee will begin a new six (6) month period to potentially earn an additional paid day off.
  6. DOCUMENTATION OF ABSENCES
    1. If an absence is due to illness or injury, an employee may be required to provide the Company a doctor’s report supporting the necessity of the absence, as well as attesting to the employee’s ability to return to work in their most recent position. This report, if requested, will be due within 15 calendar days after the absence.
    2. If an absence is the result of a personal emergency other than illness or injury, documentation supporting the absence may be required by the Company.
